The Power of Ice

Description

The sheer pharaonic enormity of this glacier is hard to appreciate until you see the people hiking across its surface. Never has geology been so clearly demonstrated to me as when hearing the Perrito Moreno glacier for the first time. It creaks and rasps and crunches and crashes. It gives the impression of being a live entity, willfully carving its way inexorably forwards. Almost as though it intends to consume anything in its path. Truly a majestic, powerful even intimidating display of natures awe.

Photographically how can you transmit all of this in one image with no sound? Whilst I kept shooting I felt utterly insufficient, I kept swapping lenses wide shots, Panoramas, and telephotos, none could quite transmit what I was feeling in its presence. Until I saw these ant like humans utterly dawned by its enormity.
